All that is required for this simple and inexpensive pie crust is flour, salt, butter, and ice-cold water. You will see by using our recipe, the crust is ready in just a few minutes. INGREDIENTS FOR OUR HOMEMADE EASY CRUST
- Flour
- Salt
- cold Butter
- ice cold Water
DIRECTIONS FOR OUR PIE CRUST
Mix together flour and salt in medium-sized bowl.
Cut in butter with pastry blender or forks until mixture is pebble-sized crumbs.
Add water and blend until mixture pulls together.
Roll into a ball and place on a lightly floured surface.
Roll out dough to about a 10" circle for 9 inch pie plate or 13″ circle for a 10" skillet pie crust.
Gently roll dough around rolling pin and unroll over the pie pan.
Gently press into pan and turn edge under.
Crimp edges (see below to see an excellent method)
Bake your favorite pie according to the directions for your particular pie.
Crimping a pie crust can be so intimidating. I can never get my crust perfect. I watched this How to Crimp Decorative Pie Crust video by Fine Cooking over on YouTube . I used the Twisted Rope look for our crust. It was easy and turned out great.

- 1 ¼ cup Flour
- ½ tsp Salt
- 8 tbsp cold Butter
- 5 tbsp ice cold Water
Instructions
- Cut butter into little cubes and put in freezer for 30 minutes.
- Mix together flour and salt in medium sized bowl.
- Cut in butter with pastry blender or forks until mixture is pebble sized crumbs.
- Gradually add water and blend until mixture pulls together.
- Roll into ball and place on lightly floured surface.
- Roll out dough to about 13" circle.
- Gently roll dough around rolling pin and unroll over pie pan.
- Gently press into pan and crimp edge

I didn’t see any place that says how long to bake the piecrust. Please advise.

It would depend on the recipe for the pie you are making. For a pie shell that you fill with pudding for example, tou would bake at 425 for 10-15 minutes until browned, then fill with pudding. Any other recipe like our apple or pumpkin pies give baking instructions in pie recipe.

So you don't poke holes in the sides of the pie crust, only the bottom?

I always poke holes in the bottom, but technically you only have to poke holes when you are blind baking it. When you are blind baking, you also poke the sides.
