Skillet Apple Cobbler is a Southern Classic made in a cast iron skillet. This homemade apple dessert is a Fall Favorite that everybody loves. We chose to offer this recipe as a “solution” to an earlier video we attempted that was a FAIL in our opinion.
SKILLET APPLE COBBLER
Making this Skillet Apple Cobbler was our “redemption recipe” for our failed quick and easy, Apple Cobbler FAIL. That prior recipe proved that quick and easy, doesn’t always deliver a delicious dessert. However, this recipe delivered a huge success with its flavor and appearance.
Choosing to make a homemade cobbler, in our opinion, is the only real option!
Okay, here is the one exception:
If you’re a college student away from home and just need an Apple fix… maybe then you can choose our old, Apple Cobbler FAIL.
Trust us, you’ll never regret taking the time to make our real homemade cobbler in a skillet.
INGREDIENTS TO HOMEMADE COBBLER
- Butter
- Granny Smith Apples
- Brown Sugar
- Sugar
- Flour
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Baking Powder
- Salt
- Milk
HOW TO MAKE SKILLET COBBLER
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Melt butter in skillet in the oven.
Remove the skillet from the oven after butter has melted and set aside.
Peel, core, and slice into ¼ inch pieces and place in a large mixing bowl
Add flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg into the mixing bowl with the apples.
Mix together with the apple in the bowl until apples are well coated.
In another large mixing bowl add flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and whisk together until blended.
Pour in milk slowly while whisking together.
Pour the batter mixture into the skillet over the melted butter.
Dump the apple mix on top of the batter mix in the skillet.
You DO NOT want to stir or blend the contents in the skillet.
Place a pan on the lower self in the oven just to be safe to catch any spills.
Bake in the oven for 55 minutes until golden brown on top.
If the edges begin to get too dark, place aluminum foil around the border to prevent burning.
If you are looking to make other apple recipes, I highly suggest making our Fried Apples. They are delicious for both dessert and side dish.

I. Don’t have a 10 inch iron skillet.....what else can I make it in?
Mike
It would work in a 12" skillet. just check it a little sooner, maybe 45 minutes, for being done. You could also make it in a 9x13" baking dish,
