Creamy Mashed Potatoes
Growing up in Kentucky eating taters was our daily staple! We had them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner… cooked every way possible. Our favorite way was in the form of whipped creamy potatoes. It wasn’t until we were grownups with kids that we discovered the concept of fixing instant potatoes; powdered, flaked, or pelleted. After years of attempting to find the perfect combination of ease, taste, feel, and look… the solution and formula were discovered! Our feeling is that our formula could completely alter the food universe. Armed with our knowledge, we chose to go head-to-head with the perfect homemade whipped potatoes, against the challenger, the basic 4 ounce dollar bag of Idahoan Buttery Homestyle Mashed Potatoes!

Our homemade whipped potatoes looked exceptional, but the challenger looked equally impressive. The goal was to achieve a very similar appearance to confuse those participating in the blind taste-test. The Idahoan’s bag directions were thrown out the window and replace with the Senior Skillet formula.

INGREDIENTS FOR OUR MASHED POTATOES - HOMEMADE
- Potatoes.
- Milk
- Butter
- Salt
HOW TO MAKE OUR MASHED POTATOES - HOMEMADE
Peel 2 pounds of Russets potatoes, and boil whole potatoes for 30 minutes, until tender.
Drain the water off and place into a mixing large bowl.
Mash the potatoes to break down the larger portions.
Heat up ⅔ cup of milk in the microwave.
Using a power mixer begin to whip the potatoes while pouring in milk until the potatoes are smooth.
Add one stick of butter and continue to use a mixer, until beautifully whipped.
Add 1 tsp of salt and continue the final whip.

- Idahoan Buttery Homestyle Potatoes
- Milk
- Water
- Butter
- Salt
HOW TO MAKE OUR MASHED POTATOES - IDAHOAN
Empty the bag of Idahoan Buttery Homestyle potatoes into a large mixing bowl.
Pour in 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of water into the bowl and blend with a spatula.
Using a power mixer blended and whipped smooth.
Heat in microwave for 4 minutes.
Add half a stick of butter and continue to power mix until smooth.
Heat in microwave for 4 minutes.
Power mix until whipped and smooth adding 1 tsp of salt.
Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients
Real Potatoes:
- 2 lb Russet Potatoes peeled
- ⅔ cup Milk
- 1 stick Butter at room temperature
- ½ tsp Sea Salt
Instant Potatoes:
- 4 oz bag Idahoan Buttery Homestyle Instant Mashed Potatoes
- 1 cup Milk
- 1 cup Water plus 1-3 tablespoons if needed
- ½ stick Butter
- Salt to taste
Instructions
Real Potatoes:
- Place peeled potatoes in large pot and fill with enough water to cover.
- Bring to a boil and cook until soft (about 20-25 minutes).
- Drain and put in bowl.
- Heat milk in microwave 1 minute at a time at 50% power until hot.
- Manually mash with whisk atttachment then slowly beginning at low turn on mixer until you reach medium.
- Gradually add hot milk.
- Add butter 1 tablespoon at a time, incorprating as you go.
- Season with salt to taste.
Instant Potatoes:
- Add bag of potatoes to large bowl.
- Add milk and water. Stir until blended and smooth.
- Whip for several minutes with whisk attachments.
- Microwave for 4 minutes.
- Cut butter into pats and fold in one at a time until melted.
- Whip with whisk until fluffy. If not looking creamy add additional water 1 tablespoon at a time.
- Microwave 2 more minutes.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Whip until fluffy.
