Skillet Apple Pie

Two Layer Skillet Apple Pie is delicious when cooked in an old-fashion cast iron skillet. This is the perfect Southern Apple Dessert, that is as fun to make as it is to eat.

Ingredients

  • 1 stick Butter divided
  • ½ cup Brown Sugar
  • 3 Refrigerated Pie Crusts
  • 8 Apples peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • ¼ cup Sanding Sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Remove 1 tablespoon of butter and return to refrigerator.
  • Place remainder of butter in skillet and place in oven until melted.
  • Add brown sugar to skillet and return to oven for 5 minute until bubbly.
  • Combine 1 cup of sugar with cinnamon and mix to combine. Set aside.
  • Place one pie crust in skillet over bubbling brown sugar.
  • Top with half of the apples.
  • Sprinkle apples with half of cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Top with another pie crust.
  • Top with remainder of Apples.
  • Sprinkle with remainder of cinnamon sugar.
  • Top with third pie crust.
  • Cut four slits to allow steam to vent.
  • Dust with sanding sugar.
  • Cut remaining tablespoon of butter into pieces and distribute over top of pie.
  • Bake for 1 hour, until crust is browned.
  • Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before cutting.
